Originally, this village has over 50 homes
and no clean, reliable source of water. This project provided water
from a clean mountain spring to 35 homes. Almost 6,000 meters of pipe
was installed with the local residents digging all of the trench by hand.
In the past the villagers often hiked long distances to
small, polluted streams to collect their daily supply of water. They
carried water in small buckets or jugs back to their homes each day to
supply both their family water needs and to water their animals. This
daily routine was especially hard on the elderly women who also were forced
to make this daily trip.
Now, each house on the pipeline has its own tap stand with
safe, clean water available year-round. As the pipeline was being
installed the village residents frequently responded with gratitude for this
gift of life.
For an idea of where the
pipeline will be installed, take a look at the Water
Project photos.

Project Outline |
Zhuogu village
#4 currently has over 40 households and no clean, reliable source
of water. This project will supply water from a mountain spring
to over 35 homes in the village. The spring water supply is clean
and is reliable year-round.
The village
leaders request help to develop a natural spring, construct a main
reservoir tank, and pipe water to
35 homes in the village. The farmers will provide most of the
labor, but need help funding the project.

Each day different residents came out to dig their portion of the ditch.
Residents dug almost 6000 meters of ditch all by hand.
A cable was secured across this valley to suspend about 300 meters of pipe.
All the work was done by local residents.
This woman was so thankful for the new water supply. For years she would have to walk down the mountain to a nearby spring to collect water and carry it back to her home. Now she has water at her home.
This is the old, unprotected spring where the villagers used to collect their daily water.
Pipe was delivered to a lower location in the village and then carried by horseback up the mountain to be installed.
Once further up the mountain the pipe was carried on the backs of the residents.
Mixing cement for the village reservoir.
The reservoir is made from bricks and concrete and holds enough water for one day.
The water from the spring arrives at the reservoir.
The spring is protected with this enclosure to ensure clean water.
Each home received one tap stand like this one plus bricks and cement to construct a basin and platform.
